Dr. Haley M. Brickman, Ph.D.
Dr. Brickman is a licensed clinical psychologist in Columbus, Ohio, who specializes in the psychological evaluation and treatment of children and adults with a variety of mental health conditions. She received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University, where she contributed to research in the fields of autism spectrum disorder and the effects of interparental conflict on children, and her doctorate from the University of Notre Dame, where she specialized in the study of family conflict and communication, including the development and evaluation of interventions aimed towards helping families of children with autism. Dr. Brickman then continued her training as a post-doctoral scientist and clinician at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH), where she served as the coordinator and phenotype specialist of a large psychiatric genomics project before accepting a joint faculty position as Psychologist at NCH and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Ohio State University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health.
So why begin a testing and evaluation practice? Throughout all of her clinical and research experiences, Dr. Brickman has developed not only expertise but also a fundamental belief in the power of evaluation as both a diagnostic tool and a critical component to achieving therapeutic results. Compass was founded with this in mind; every service is rooted in thorough evaluation to either 1) achieve diagnostic clarification in order to guide treatment planning or 2) evaluate symptom presentation and track therapeutic progress.
Dr. Brickman's testing services range from ADHD and other neurodevelopmental disorders (i.e., autism spectrum disorder, intellectual and learning disabilities) to the identification of emerging or pre-existing mood disorders and psychosis. However, her extensive research and clinical training in the fields of child and adolescent mood disorders, early-onset psychosis, and the differential diagnosis of complex psychiatric presentations - including those in which autism spectrum disorder is a possibility - makes her uniquely qualified to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment recommendations for individuals in which the question at hand may not be “clear cut.” In this regard, Dr. Brickman approaches each evaluation with an open and curious mind and a compassionate yet results-driven attitude; she is passionate in her belief that accurate and comprehensive evaluation is key to identifying the best treatment options.
Rooted in her doctoral experience as a family studies researcher, Dr. Brickman also has a passion for helping families foster healthy communication and relationships and provides solution-focused marital and family interventions on a limited basis. Such services include marital counseling, family therapy, and behavior management interventions for parents of children with emotional and/or behavioral challenges.
